Books in the Freezer is a podcast all about horror books, so naturally they are holding a readathon next month in time for Halloween. The readathon takes place on the 1st – 14th of October and there are 5 challenges which all sound really interesting.
Here’s my TBR for the readathon:
Read a Horror Book by a Female Author:
For this I am reading The Haunting of Hill House by Shirley Jackson. I love The Lottery short story, so I’m looking forward to this one.
Read an anthology or short story collection:
For this I want to read Everything’s Eventual by Stephen King. It has quite mixed reviews on Goodreads, but I really like the 1408 movie so I thought I’d check out the collection it’s in.
Read a Horror Book with a POC or LGBQ+ main character
For this prompt I’m listening to the audio book of The Picture of Dorian Gray by Oscar Wilde. I’ve seen the film which had Colin Firth in (I love him!) and it’s been on my mental TBR ever since. It’s such a classic
Read a horror book that had a movie adaptation
I’m cheating a little bit on this and reading Bird Box by Josh Malerman. Apparently Netflix are making an adaptation to come out later this year, but really I just wanted to read this after April at the booktube channel Getting Hygge With It has recommended it so many times.
Read a book we’ve recommended on the podcast
I think I’m going to read The Shining, again by Stephen King. I’ve read this a couple of times but I really enjoy reading it at this time of year.
Are you doing this readathon? Let me know what’s on your TBR.
Awesome list!
I loved both of the Stephen King books and based on the reviews i’ve seen around, Bird Box is super creepy 😀
Enjoy! 🙂

Thanks, glad you enjoyed both the King books, I’ve been a bit nervous about the short story collection from some reviews. Can’t wait for Bird Box either 🙂
