Top Ten Tuesday: Wintry / Cosy Reads
The Book Thief
Harry Potter – Is there anything better than the Hogwarts Christmas scenes? I’d love to have a Christmas lunch with exploding crackers and hats that don’t break.
A Night to Remember – The cover of the Titanic floating across the Atlantic reminds me of the winter even though the disaster happened in April.
Murder on the Orient Express- I love a cosy mystery at Christmastime, and there’s nothing cosier than Agatha Christie. Speaking of which I also love And then there were none.
The Woman in Black- on a similar vein I think horror is great when the nights are dark. The Woman in Black is a creepy novel, perfect for stormy weather. There is also The Shining, because who doesn’t get creeped out by the Overlook Hotel, and The Picture of Dorian Gray if you like more classic gothic horror.
A Christmas Carol –The definitive Christmas story for sure. I’ve loved it since I saw The Muppets version, and I think it’s my favourite Dickens book.
Finally, The Snowman is a lovely picture book and great Christmas eve quick read, preferably accompanied by watching the animation.
