5/5 – I loved this book, I think it’s one of my top books I’ve read this year.

Currently Reading

Half Blood Prince – J.K. Rowling

I’m still rereading this massive book. Harry’s just found the HBP’s book and I forgot how much I love-hate Slughorn.

Notes on a Scandal – Zoe Heller

This is my current audiobook, I’m nearly finished and I’m so glad I picked it up from the library. It’s so well written and the narrator’s voice is perfect for Barbara.

Hired – James Bloodworth

My current Non-fiction November read about low-paid workers in the UK. I only started it yesterday, but I’m finding it quite interesting.

It’s Monday, What are you reading? #5

It’s Monday, What are you reading? is a weekly chance to share what you’ve been reading recently and what you want to read this week. It’s held by The Book Date so check out her blog if you want to join in!

Last week

I was in a bit of a slump last week. I picked up 3 different books and couldn’t get into them so DNF’d:

  • Tithe – Holly Black
  • Common Ground – Rob Cowen
  • A God in Ruins – Kate Atkinson

I did finally manage to finish the audiobook of The Picture of Dorian Gray, which I was reading for the Books in the Freezer Readathon. I’m glad I listened to the audiobook of this, as I’m not sure I’d have stuck with the literary style if I was reading it.

This week

I’m currently reading This is going to hurt by Adam Kay, which are his diaries of his time working as a doctor for the NHS. It was everywhere earlier this year, and I’m really enjoying it, it’s definitely worth the hype.

I’m also listening to Notes on a Scandal by Zoe Heller, about a teacher at a school in London who has an affair with her pupil and that’s very intriguing so far.

Up next

This year I have been (very slowly) rereading the Harry Potter series for the hundredth time, so I think I will start Half Blood Prince.

It’s Monday, What are you reading? #4

The “It’s Monday, What are you Reading” meme is hosted by The Book Date. It’s a chance to show your followers what book you’re reading or listening to.

Last Week:

Last week I finally finished The Psychology of Time Travel. It was OK, but I’d had higher expectations after the reviews I read on Goodreads and Netgalley.

I was mostly reading Dolores Claiborne by Stephen King. I’ve really been enjoying the novel, it seems to have gotten me out of a bit of a slump so I’m hoping I can get a review up on Friday.

This Week:

This week is the first week of the Books in the Freezer readathon. I posted my TBR recently so check it out here if you’d like and let me know if you’re doing the readathon.

This week I’m hoping to read Bird Box by Josh Malerman and The Haunting of Hill House by Shirley Jackson.

Next Week:

Next week will be the second week of the BITF readathon, and I’m planning to read The Shining and a short story collection from Stephen King.

Last Week:

I didn’t finish any books last week unfortunately. I started a couple of books but couldn’t get into them so I DNF’d them.

This Week:

I’m still going with The Psychology of Time Travel by Kate Mascarenhas. I’m about 75% through and I’m quite enjoying it so I don’t know why it’s taking me so long to finish.

I’m also reading Dolores Claiborne by Stephen King. I just started this last night so I haven’t read much of it, but I’m looking forward to reading another Stephen King.

Next Week:

Next week is the Books in the Freezer readathon, which is a horror themed readathon (how is it October next week?!). Here is my readathon and the details of the challenge in case you want to get involved.

It’s Monday: What are you reading? #1

This is my first time doing the It’s Monday, What are you reading? meme hosted by The Book Date. It’s a chance to show other people what you are reading or what book you’re listening to.

Currently Reading:

Sketchcop – Michael W. Streed

Sketchcop: Drawing a Line Against Crime

This book is about a police officer in the USA, and his role creating images and sketches to help solve cases. It’s an interesting read, especially if you like true crime, and it’s really opening my eyes to the work that goes on in this role. In the book, Streed talks about some of the cases he has helped solve, showing the sketches compared to the real life person and detailing how he interviews witnesses and victims to get the best information he can.

This Child of Ours – Sadie Pearse

This Child of Ours

This was a Netgalley ARC and so far it tells the story of Sally and Theo, as well as their child Riley. It’s quite a slow read so far (I’m about 20% through) but Goodreads reviews are all very positive. It’s based around Riley’s gender dysphoria although I’ve not reached that part yet, but I think if I didn’t enjoy reading LGBT fiction I might have DNF’d by now – it’s just a bit slow.

Up Next:

I think up next will be A Little Life by Hanya Yanagihara about the relationship between 4 young college friends as they move to New York and how it develops over the decades. I’ve heard positive things but it’s a bit intimidating at over 700 pages.
